Sir Anthony Kenny nasceu em Liverpool em 1931 e doutorou-se em filosofia pelo St. Benet's Hall da Oxford University em 1961. Foi presidente da British Academy e pró-vice-chanceler da University of Oxford. Atualmente é Presidente do Royal Institute of Philosophy.Ensinou em várias universidades inglesas, tendo recebido vários títulos de doutor honoris causa: Bristol (1982), Denison University, Ohio (1986), Liverpool (1988), Glasgow e Lafayette College, Pennsylvania (1990), Trinity College, Dublin (1992), Hull (1993), Queen's University of Belfast (1994) e das universidades de Sheffield e Warwik (1995). Escreveu muitos livros sobre filosofia da mente, filosofia da religião e história da filosofia, incluindo trabalhos ao mesmo tempo populares e densos sobre Aristóteles, Tomás de Aquino, Descartes e Wittgenstein.
