The Demdike and Chattox families were in competition with one another, both trying to make a living from witchcraft, healing and extortion. After a long intertwined history between the two enemy families of witches, who constantly used their witchcraft against each other, causing harmful intent known as maleficium (causing harm by witchcraft) they became mortal foes.
