Um dos mais importantes nomes do jornalismo internacional, o norte-americano Tom Wolfe, um dos fundadores do New Journalism, nasceu em 1930, em Richmond, Virginia, e morreu em maio de 2018, aos 88 anos, em Nova York. Verdadeiro documentarista da vida americana, escreveu reportagens que fizeram história para veículos como Esquire, New York Magazine, Harper’s e outros, além de mais de uma dúzia de livros de ficção e não ficção, como o bestseller A fogueira das vaidades, romance que se tornou referência na prosa norte-americana ao pintar um retrato arrebatador e satírico da Nova York movida a dinheiro, poder, ganância e vaidade da década de 1980. Seu último livro, O reino da fala (2016), é um polêmico ensaio sobre evolução e linguística. |
