Wilde, Oscar
Nasceu em Dublin, Irlanda, em 1854. Filho de um médico e de uma escritora, esteve desde a infância rodeado de intelectuais.
Escreveu contos, poesia, peças de teatro e ensaios.
Em 1883, casou-se com Constance Lloyd, com quem teve dois filhos.
Wilde publicou o seu único romance e uma das maiores obras da literatura inglesa O Retrato de Dorian Gray, em 1891.
Nele, expôs a futilidade da alta sociedade e seu contrate com a rotina da classe operária.
Vítima de moralismo que sempre criticou, foi acusado de homossexualidade, devido ao envolvimento com o filho de um marquês, em 1895, e condenado a dois anos de prisão.
Libertado, mudou-se para Paris, onde morreu de meningite em 1900. |
