O Arcebispo DESMOND M. TUTU foi o ganhador do Prêmio Nobel da Paz de 1984 e recebeu o
Prêmio Templeton em 2013. Tutu foi presidente, de 2007 a 2013, da associação The Elders.
Em 2009, recebeu a Medalha Presidencial da Liberdade. Em 1994, foi eleito presidente da
Comissão da Verdade e da Reconciliação da África do Sul, onde propôs uma nova forma de
superação para países vitimados pela opressão e pelos conflitos civis.
