Formou-se em Artes e hoje é autor best-seller do New York Times, do USA Today e do Sunday Times. Na Austrália, já venceu oito prêmios Aurealis e um ABIA, e é publicado em mais de 35 países – a maioria deles, Jay ainda não conhece. As Crônicas de Quasinoite, série também publicada pela Plataforma21, foi sua estreia no Brasil.
