Waukegan, Illinois, 1920 – Los Angeles, Califórnia, 2012Considerado um dos mais célebres escritores do século XX, Ray Bradbury foi romancista, contista, poeta, dramaturgo e roteirista de cinema e de rádio. Tinha doze anos quando passou por sua cidadezinha um pequeno circo ambulante no qual trabalhava um mágico chamado Mr. Electrico. “Ele estava sentado em uma cadeira elétrica”, contava Bradbury, “e seu ajudante abaixou uma alavanca. A energia elétrica atravessou o corpo do mágico, que, com o cabelo todo arrepiado, brandiu uma espada de Excalibur que lançava faíscas.” Bradbury, sentado na primeira fila, viu como, dentre todos os meninos, o mágico o escolheu e, apontando a espada para um de seus ombros, depois para o outro e, por fim, para seu nariz, gritou: “Viva para sempre!” Bradbury achou que não poderia haver ideia melhor.
