Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu (1814-1873) foi um escritor irlandês de grande influência para o gênero gótico na era vitoriana. Formado pela Trinity College, universidade de grande prestígio na Irlanda, se destacou academicamente e passou a publicar seus contos em periódicos da época. Em certo momento, se tornou dono e editor da Dublin University Magazine, onde publicava seus escritos que mais tarde seriam compilados em livros. Com Carmilla, Le Fanu iniciou um modelo de personagem que perdura até os tempos de hoje: a vampira feminina, misteriosa e cativante. |
