Investing in Art in the Digital Age was written primarily for those individuals who view their art collection in both aesthetic and in financial terms as an art investment. Like any investment, the goal is to buy low and to sell high. The author, a twenty-five year art insider, provides advice on how and where to buy and to sell art. As an example in the introduction, he points to a painting that would have sold for $25,000 in the artists's gallery was bought for only $6,000 at auction. Even for collectors who have no intention in selling any of their collection, the book details how art can be acquired at a fraction of the gallery prices. Over the last twenty years, the internet has radically changed the art market. Collectors who seek to find pleasure plus profit in their art collections will find most of the rules of acquisition and dealing art are no longer applicable in today's digital environment. The author shares many of his insights and anecdotes as both a gallery owner and an art appraiser over a twenty-five year career. "It has always bothered me that the nicest collectors always paid the highest prices." The book covers virtually every subject pertaining to art collecting and investing in a concise and readable style. For the collector who views their art as an investment, Investing in Art in the Digital Age is a must read.
