The original book of Last Chance Alaska has a colorful photo interior of a jouney around Alaska repeating photography taken in 1935-36 by Randolph Angus Douglas on his quest to find gold. This created the stark contrast between the then and now photographs, but also created a pricey book to purchase. Thus, the Grayscale Edition of Last Chance Alaska drastically reduced its cost. The drama, however, still remains of how it was and now is, but the reader may need to look more closely at the photographs, and maybe this is a good thing. Both books of LAST CHANCE ALASKA depict a story of two challenging journeys, one to search for gold in the mid-thirties and the other to retrace old photo destinations at the end of the 20th century.
