"Lovers on the Breeze" is told from the perspective of a curtain in a child's bedroom that jealously watches the young girl Naoko as she has her first kiss with a boy from her class and does its best to stop her. "Eating the City" explores the strange norms around food and foraging, while "Hatchling" closes the collection with an extraordinary depiction of the fractured personality of someone who tries too hard to fit in.In these strange and wonderful stories of family and friendship, sex and intimacy, belonging and individuality, Murata asks above all what it means to be a human in our world and offers answers that surprise and linger.
Murata, Sayaka
SAYAKA MURATA nasceu em 1979 em Inzai, na província de Chiba, próxima a Tóquio. Fã de mangás e ficção científica, desde a infância já escrevia histórias. Seu romance de estreia QUERIDA KONBINI (Estação Liberdade, 2018) — que já vendeu mais de 1 milhão de exemplares em todo o mundo — rendeu-lhe o prêmio Akutagawa em 2016. Antes, havia recebido os prêmios Gunzo e Noma, em 2003 e 2009, ambos voltados para novos escritores, e o prêmio Yukio Mishima, em 2013.Os temas abordados por ela costumam se relacionar à não conformidade dentro da sociedade japonesa nas relações de gênero, trabalho e na sexualidade, muitas vezes incorporando aspectos distópicos ou de horror. Seu conto “Um casamento limpo”, sobre um casal que deseja conceber um filho sem fazer sexo, foi publicado na Granta Vol. 13: Traição, também em tradução de Rita Kohl. |
