MALALA YOUSAFZAI iniciou sua campanha pelo direito das meninas à educação aos dez anos. Usando um pseudônimo, escreveu para a BBC urdu contando como era a vida sob o domínio do Talibã. Em outubro de 2012, sofreu um ataque do grupo terrorista enquanto voltava da escola, mas sobreviveu e seguiu com sua campanha.
