Professora de educação matemática da Stanford University e cofundadora do YouCubed. Autora do primeiro MOOC (aula on-line aberta e massiva) de ensino e aprendizagem de matemática. Foi Professora Marie Curie de Educação Matemática na Inglaterra e ganhou o prêmio de melhor doutorado naquele país, concedido pela British Educational Research Association. É membro eleito da Royal Society of Arts (Grã-Bretanha) e ex-presidente da International Organization for Women and Mathematics Educations (IOWME). Foi agraciada com o Prêmio Presidencial da National Science Foundation e com o Prêmio de Equidade Kay Gilliland do National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics.
