Asturias, Miguel Angel

Miguel Ángel Asturias (Cidade da Guatemala, 1899 - Madri, 1974) caracterizou sua obra pelo uso criativo do idioma e pela importante reconversão que realizou dos mundos mágico e mítico.

Cotradutor do "Popol Vuh", o livro sagrado do povo quiché, foi defensor dos povos indígenas e de sua cultura, assim como das liberdades para o ser humano. Ocupou cargos políticos e diplomáticos em diversos países e foi agraciado com os prêmios Lênin da Paz (1965) e Nobel de Literatura (1967). Suas obras mais conhecidas são "O Senhor Presidente", "Homens de Milho" e "Lendas da Guatemala".
