Allende, Isabel
Isabel Allende nasceu em 1942, no Peru. Passou a primeira infância no Chile e morou em vários lugares na adolescência e na juventude. Depois do golpe militar de 1973 no Chile, exilou-se na Venezuela e, desde 1987, vive como imigrante na Califórnia. Define-se como “eterna estrangeira”.
Foi no jornalismo que iniciou sua carreira literária, no Chile e na Venezuela. Em 1982, seu primeiro romance, A casa dos espíritos, tornou-se um dos títulos míticos da literatura latino-americana. A este se seguiram muitos outros, e todos foram sucessos internacionais. Sua obra foi traduzida para quarenta idiomas e mais de setenta milhões de exemplares foram vendidos, o que faz dela a mais lida escritora de língua espanhola.
Isabel Allende recebeu mais de sessenta prêmios internacionais, entre os quais o Prêmio Nacional de Literatura do Chile, em 2010, o Prêmio Hans Christian Andersen na Dinamarca, em 2012, por sua trilogia As aventuras da Águia e do Jaguar, e a Medalha da Liberdade nos Estados Unidos, a mais alta distinção civil do país, em 2014. Em 2018, Isabel Allende tornou-se a primeira escritora de língua espanhola premiada com a medalha de honra do National Book Award, nos Estados Unidos, por sua grande contribuição para o mundo das letras. |
