12-year-old Jessica Stamford has just moved from Michigan to California following her parent's painful divorce. Instead of enjoying the family life that she had always known, Jessica now lives alone with her mother while her sister stays with their father in Michigan. As she adjusts to life on the West Coast, a group of new friends challenge her to compete in the Miss Junior California pageant in an effort to unseat the reigning pageant queen. Although entering a beauty contest was never part of Jessica's plan, the experience has the power to reveal the true meaning of family and friendship and, above all, what it means to have confidence in herself. Join Jessica on her journey to find a true sense of home in a new state, at a new school, and with new friends, as she finally starts to understand who she is and who she really wants to be.
