J. M. COETZEE nasceu na Cidade do Cabo, África do Sul, em 1940. É autor de mais de vinte livros, entre eles Desonra, Elizabeth Costello, Verão e A vida escolar de Jesus, todos publicados pela Companhia das Letras. Recebeu inúmeros prêmios, com destaque para o Man Booker Prize, em 1983 e 1999, e o Nobel de literatura, em 2003.
