JARVIS estudou design gráfico e trabalhou como designer de capas de discos e diretor de animação antes de se tornar autor e ilustrador de livros infantis. Sobre a inspiração para seus livros, ele diz: “A maneira como trabalho é sempre visual. Tenho uma imagem ou personagem em mente e tiro uma história dela. Rabisco, rabisco e rabisco até acertar.” Mora em Manchester, numa parte muito arborizada e tranquila do norte da Inglaterra, com sua namorada e seu gato, que costuma rasgar essas ideias em pedacinhos.
