Benchley, Peter
Peter Benchley (1940-2006) pertence a uma das famílias literárias mais celebradas dos EUA. Seu avô foi o humorista Robert Benchley e seu pai, o romancista Nathaniel Benchley. Jornalista de sucesso, estreou na ficção com TUBARÃO (1974) e, com Carl Gottlieb, escreveu o roteiro da adaptação para os cinemas, sucesso instantâneo. Seu interesse pelos oceanos – presente em todos os seus romances – data da infância, quando frequentava as praias da Costa Leste durante o verão. Escreveu dezenas de romances, muitos deles best-sellers, incluindo The Deep, Island, The Beast e Shark Trouble. Ao anunciar sua morte, em 2006, o obituário do New York Times informava que Tubarão já havia superado a marca de 20 milhões de exemplares vendidos. |
