Nascida em Oxford em 3 de agosto de 1920, P. D. James é conhecida como uma das escritoras mais influentes no gênero do romance policial e de mistério. Nascida Phyllis Dorothy James, passou a maior parte de sua carreira no Departamento de Polícia Criminal do Ministério do Interior, laboratório que inspiraria suas criações. Seu primeiro romance, Cover Her Face, foi lançado quando ela tinha 42 anos. Autora de vinte obras, muitas protagonizadas pelo detetive e poeta Adam Dalgliesh, P. D. James teve boa parte de suas histórias adaptadas para o cinema e para a televisão. Filhos da esperança, seu livro mais célebre, deu origem ao filme homônimo de 2006 pelas mãos do diretor mexicano Alfonso Cuarón, protagonizado por Julianne Moore e Clive Owen. A autora faleceu em sua casa em Oxford, em 27 de novembro de 2014, três anos depois da publicação de sua última obra, Morte em Pemberley. |
