CHARLES KINGSLEY nasceu em 1819, em Devon, na Inglaterra. Estudou na Univer¬sidade de Cambridge e, além de escritor, foi também pastor anglicano e capelão da rainha Vitória. Em 1860 foi nomeado professor de História Moderna na Univer¬sidade de Cambridge. Em 1869, desistiu do magistério e, de 1870 a 1873, foi cônego da catedral de Chester. Lá, fundou a Socie-dade de Ciências Naturais, Literatura e Artes de Chester, que teve grande impor¬tância na criação do Grosvenor Museum. Kingsley morreu em 1875. |
