Pyle, Howard

Nasceu em 1853, nos Estados Unidos, desde criança interessou-se pelos grandes ilustradores ingleses e pelas lendas medievais. Foi aluno dopintor Francis van der Wielen, na Filadélfia, onde deu aulas na Academia de Belas Artes, e frequentou a Liga de Estudantes de Arte, em Nova York. Depois de frustradas tentativas, vendeu um artigo para a revista Harper's Weekly, o que lhe abriu as portas do mundo editorial.
Em 1903, criou a Escola de Ilustração Howard Pyle, onde estudaram 110 artistas, 40 deles mulheres, alguns dos quais se tornaram renomados desenhistas, Nesse período,
escreveu mais de 20 livros O autor e ilustrador morreu em 1911, na Itália.
