Dona de uma das vozes mais amadas do pop, Susanna Hoffs é formada em artes pela Universidade da Califórnia, em Berkeley. Em 1981, ela cofundou The Bangles, com quem gravou e lançou uma sequência de singles que alcançaram o topo das paradas, incluindo Manic Monday (de Prince), Walk Like an Egyptian, Hazy Shade of Winter e Eternal Flame (que ela compôs em parceria), antes de embarcar em uma carreira solo aclamada pela crítica. Hoffs também escreveu e gravou músicas para os filmes de Austin Powers, nos quais também apareceu, e se interpretou na primeira temporada de Gilmore Girls. Este Pássaro Voou é seu primeiro romance.
